Taking place from November 13th to November 17th, the 2023 edition of the Dubai Airshow is set to be a week of excitement. The show, which is held under the patronage of the ruler of Dubai, takes place every other year (odd years). It takes place at a specially constructed facility located at the Al Maktoum International Airport, commonly known as Dubai World Central.

Five days of aircraft, orders, and exhibitors

As the biggest airshow catering to the Middle East and North Africa region, the Dubai Airshow is never short of excitement, whether that's through interesting aircraft attending, blockbuster orders being placed, or the many exhibitors and attendees that will be present.

Showing how important the show is not just to the region but the entire aviation industry, Boeing used the 2021 edition of the airshow to debut the 777X. This year, Israel Aerospace Industries and AerCap are set to use the platform to debut the "Big Twin" Boeing 777-300ERSF. This year, a huge contingent of aircraft is expected at the show.

This year, we are also expecting to see some significant orders placed from key players in the local aerospace community. Tony Douglas has hinted that Saudi startup Riyadh Air will place a significant order for narrowbody jets at this show. The airline is also going to debut the second of two liveries it will operate under. Meanwhile, some expect that Emirates could place a significant Airbus or Boeing order for its long-term fleet requirements.

A short history of the airshow

The Dubai Airshow traces its roots back to 1986, though back then, it was known as "Arab Air" and took place at the Dubai World Trade Center. The first fully-fledged Dubai Airshow took place three years later at the Dubai International Airport.

Since the early days, Dubai International Airport has ballooned in size and busyness. It would be unpractical to host the show at the emirate's main airport, so the show is now held at a purpose-built facility at the Dubai World Central (DWC) airport, a 40-minute drive from the main airport.
