Lufthansa's acquisition of ITA Airways is facing an in-depth investigation by the European Commission due to concerns about reduced competition in short-haul and long-haul markets.
The Commission is particularly worried about routes between Italy and Central Europe and the impact on prices and capacity. It also has concerns over long-haul sectors to North America and Asia.
There are concerns about creating a dominant position at Milan Linate Airport and ITA Airways' valuable slots, valued at €125.55 million.
