BermudAir will operate its newest routes with the Embraer E175 aircraft. When the flights launch in March, Baltimore and Orlando will become BermudAir's fourth and fifth US destinations, respectively, joining the airline's existing services to Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), and Westchester (HPN). The carrier will not face any direct competition on either of its new routes, although American Airlines is due to resume service to nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in April.

Excitement at both ends of the route

There was excitement across the region at the tourism and business opportunities that the new route will bring. Baltimore/Washington Airport's Executive Director, Ricky Smith, said,

“We are thrilled to welcome BermudAir and this premier service to the island paradise of Bermuda. BermudAir is growing quickly and creating new opportunities for tourism and economic development. Our customers will appreciate the airline’s quick and easy access to Bermuda’s natural beauty, culture, and history.”

The Founder and CEO of BermudAir, Adam Scott, also expressed his excitement at the new services to both Baltimore and Orlando, saying, adding,

“The addition of Baltimore and Orlando to our network, subject to imminent final regulatory approval, is a clear indicator of BermudAir’s ongoing growth. This expansion demonstrates our dedication to meeting our passengers’ needs and strategically enhancing our service offerings, based on continual market feedback and evaluation. It’s a significant step that elevates BermudAir to new levels of service and reach.”

BermudAir is the first locally established Bermudian airline and commenced operations on September 1st, 2023. The latest data from ch-aviation shows that the airline's fleet is currently made up of just two Embraer E175s, each capable of seating up to 88 passengers. However, BermudAir has only been selling a maximum of 44 seats per flight, ensuring a comfortable ride for all onboard. The airline recently revealed its plans to retrofit the aircraft with a two-class cabin, featuring 14 seats in business class and 52 in economy class.

Bermuda's growing route network

Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport opened its new terminal back in 2020. Following a two-year drop in passenger numbers, it has since been taking advantage of the post-pandemic boom in air travel. In addition to several routes to the US, Bermuda is also connected to Toronto (Air Canada Rouge), Ponta Delgada (Azores Airlines), and London Heathrow (British Airways).

Meanwhile, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport already hosts a series of international routes, with the airport often operating as a secondary gateway to the city of Washington, DC. International destinations currently served from the airport include Panama City (Copa Airlines), Frankfurt (Condor), Cancún (Frontier Airlines), and London Heathrow (British Airways). The airport sees almost 300 daily departures, and last year welcomed 24.7 million passengers, up 15% from 2022.
