People have been flying privately since the earliest days of aviation. The first commercial aircraft, coming out of use after the First World War, would only carry one passenger - essentially making all air travel at the time private! However, the concept of an exclusive jet for personal use instead of shared commercial flying started to develop in the 1950s, with Learjet launching the first popular private jet in the early 1960s.
