Phil Washington, CEO of Denver International Airport, said,

"We welcome Viva Aerobus as a new partner. The addition of Monterrey to our destinations aligns with our Vision 100 plan and meets our goal of expanding our international connections. These flights specifically will provide more accessible options for those in the Mile-High City and Colorado."

Viva Aerobus proudly boasts the youngest fleet of any Mexican airline, with 82 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with an average age of 5.2 years. According to data from ch-aviation, Viva operates four variants of Airbus A320 family aircraft, A320/321ceo and A320/A321neo. The airline already has 26 A312neos and has another 20 to be delivered.

Through its expansion, Viva hopes to turn Monterrey into a strong regional hub. In 2024 alone, the airline is adding flights to New York, San Francisco, Austin, Miami, and Orlando. Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, Tourism Secretary for Nuevo Leon, said Viva is following through on the commitment it made in 2023. The expansion is not just an initiative from the airline but rather a partnership with the local government to turn MTY into a regional hub.

Villareal added,

"With two weekly flights, the new route not only offers new travel opportunity, but encourages the growth of aviation in the region. We invite everyone to visit Nuevo León, for business or cultural awareness, we are ready to welcome you with open arms."

Viva's busiest MTY routes

Cirium data shows there are 4,043 flights scheduled to and from Monterrey by Viva Aerobus this month. The airline's busiest route, by far, is to Mexico City, reaching 12 daily roundtrips on the busiest days. There are 655 flights scheduled from MTY to MEX, amounting to 140,890 seats. The next busiest route is to Cancun, one of Mexico's most popular beach destinations. The airline offers up to ten roundtrips to Cancun, carrying more than 4,000 passengers daily.

Though MTY-MEX is Viva's busiest route, it competes with Aeromexico and Volaris, and Aeromexico has the largest market share, offering up to 13 daily roundtrips. Volaris' market share is much smaller, with up to four roundtrips. Volaris is Viva's only competition to Cancun. At the beginning of the month, it offered five daily roundtrips, but services have since decreased to two daily roundtrips.
